One ITE Update from ITE Board of Direction

Dear ITE Members,

I want take this opportunity to share the latest progress with regard to our ONE ITE initiative. As you will remember this effort, is aimed at enhancing the member experience, improving consistency across ITE, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of ITE. There are a number of facets to this effort and it remains a work in progress, but the ITE Board of Direction took some important steps forward at its meeting held this past weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona in conjunction with the National Rural ITS Conference.

The International Board of Direction (IBOD):

  • Reviewed the excellent progress being made in creating a Missouri Valley District and a “new” Great Lakes District. Transition teams are engaging with leadership from each of the affected Sections and Chapters and working through the many details involved in standing up these new Districts.
  • Reviewed plans for implementing a Section Affiliate transition drive. Starting in January, existing Section Affiliates will be given the opportunity to experience ITE International membership for free for one year to make the decision on whether to join as ITE members. A webinar with Section leadership is scheduled for November 1 to discuss the details of the transition process. Communication with Section Affiliates will begin in January. Chapter Affiliate transition will begin in 2020.
  • Reviewed input from District leadership on drafts of new District charters and model bylaws and approved final versions. The Board adopted the new model documents, and new charters will be issued to most Districts in early 2019. Work to develop new District bylaws will be completed in 2019.
  • Reviewed input from the Western District’s ONE ITE Task Force on plans to create a new Rocky Mountain District. The IBOD voted to reaffirm its intent to create this new District, but recognizing the need to further engage leaders and members in the Rocky Mountain states, established a ONE ITE sub-taskforce. I have appointed incoming International Vice President Randy McCourt to chair this task force, which will work with representatives from the Rocky Mountain states to address questions and concerns, to identify opportunities, and to coordinate with the Western District leadership in the development of a more complete implementation plan.

I am very excited about the progress we are making in charting a better and brighter future for ITE, and I look forward to working with our incoming International President Bruce Belmore to build on this momentum.  I appreciate the feedback we have received through the mailbox. We will continue to keep you informed on progress through these direct member communications, Dan Beaty’s ONE ITE column in Spotlite, and the ONE ITE webpage at Keep a look out for a ONE ITE article in the December ITE Journal.
